"As histories go, most are portrayed in a bland and tasteless way. They skip over the most interesting aspects, and simply recite what happened in short, quick to the point words, droll and pointless. True, there are a select few that go above and beyond the call of bland, and are actually captivating. So, I find it my duty to make the history of this Clan as interesting as possible, for the sad of our children's children's grandchildren. When they speak of us, they will speak of us with awe and admiration. We will be the thing of Legends!" ~ The First Alpha, Gage Crimsonfang. Alas, though he made such a bold declaration, and aye, his children's children's grandchildren still praise his name, but his triumph has become a legend in the eyes of the Clan. But, here is the story, none the less:
Gage was the youngest of the two Heirs to the Alphas; the she-wolf Alphena of the silver claws, and Ooran of the flashing step. Gage's sister was Dante of the Blackfire, and most likely to ascend to the position of Alpha. She had always been a favorite among the males, who endlessly courted her. In his family of "royalty", Gage was the only who had yet to earn his name of battle. It was an ending to any one's name, giving respect to their achievements. Gage's father possessed the power to move at great speeds by bending the will of the wind. It was said his enemies could only see the flash of his brown paws and glowing red eyes before they died. (Back then, only the Alphas and their family, along with the Betas and the occasional Elder had red eyes and brown fur. It was a sign of high authority.) Alphena only fought in the Great Battle against the neighboring pack once, and it was in the light of the moon. At that time, the forest's trees were not silver. As she fought, Alphena's glittering claws glowed silver as they slashed her victim. Her claws even caressed the trees, which turned silver at her touch. It was then that the forest was renamed the Forest of Alphena. But it was Gage's sister who was most revered. In the same forest of her mother, she'd lit the monstrous wolves ablaze in a black and gray fire. It left the trees untouched, while her victims lay in ash at her feet. In fact, instead of hurting the trees, the grass and waters began to glow, and the spirits of the dead forfeited their powers and magic.
But Gage, though emerging triumphant from every battle, showed no sign of greatness. He was like his mother, who possessed no power over the Elements. But, his mother had a strange gift in her claws in which he did not have. He was never in the front lines of battle, only a reinforcement. He could not live up to his sister's great reputation of killing all in her wake.
Ooran was more distant than Alphena toward their son. He couldn't understand how his son hadn't been passed the trait of the Elements, when it ran strong through his veins. What his mate lacked, he made up in two-fold. But this didn't help in his lack of understanding. Gage's mother assured him he'd find his gift, and even if he didn't, it would still be fine. He was a well-built, powerful young wolf. Any female would see that.
And then, it was finally Gage's time.
His father had led what they believed to be the final assault on the neighboring pack, including more than three fourths of the warriors in the clan (Dante was included). They had been growing weaker as they grew ever stronger. They had been waging war for years now. No one but the Elders remembered why. (The pack of Ranok had stolen the previous Alphas' only daughter.) He was confident in their powers, and marched proudly to the boarder.
Two days later, a bloodied wolf collapsed before Alphena, trying to relay his desperate message after running three miles across the forest, with three broken ribs, and a sprained ankle, as well as other miscellaneous cuts, bruises, and whatnot. The messenger didn't make until three days later, when it was too late. But Gage didn't hear this news until later; he was else where when the messenger woke up.
Gage was, to be honest, infatuated with a female he'd found near a clearing with a stream. They talked, and he gazed at her. He'd never seen any she-wolf like her. She was a silver colored wolf with deep blue eyes and white markings. Her name was Senka. He ended up asking where she was from, and she admitted she didn't know where. The pack she grew up in had told she would never belong with them, and had treated her and her family like slaves. Gage sympathized for a moment, before he realized she was from the enemy pack. He said nothing about this to her, but was more wary of what he told her. Senka was equally infatuated with Gage, for he had a deep, brown coat and red gleaming eyes like none she'd ever seen. She even agreed to meet him again, shyly.
When Gage returned to the camp, he was light as a feather, and ten feet above the clouds. He was brought down by the storm; his father was dead.
Infuriated, Gage pleaded with his mother to let him go and save his captured sister. He knew his mother could do nothing in the state she was in; she was pregnant. But she told him to wait, though it pained her, for the messenger of the pack to come and tell them their ransom. It was almost three weeks before they messenger came, and Senka and Gage had thoroughly fallen in love. It was a cliched forbidden love, they knew, but it was love none the less.
But when the messenger came, he came with a taunting stride. The clan wolves growled at his existence. The messenger relayed that they would return their precious Dante and end the war between them should the clan wolves sacrifice ten of their "virgin" she-wolves and two of their strongest warriors. The warriors would be killed and the she-wolves...deflowered (forcefully bred). He said those were the only terms the pack would accept, and they could not be negotiated. Should they not comply, Dante and the other hostages would be disposed of.
It was Gage who led the revolt against the news. He gathered the remaining warriors, and gave them a peep-talk that any commander would envy. Gage had always been very good at public speaking. They led a sneak attack. Gage assured them that the Ronak would be expecting it; but he had a plan. He split the revolt into five different groups; the smallest to lead them away, two of the largest to flank the other side of their camp and attack, the next smallest to lead the search and rescue, and then, the reinforcements should anything go wrong. He expected them to think they would go for a full on assault, as was his father's favorite tactic. He figured that was why they had somehow overcome his father's efforts. And, it was indeed what he expected. The majority of their warriors - still licking their wounds from the previous battle, despite the length it had been for them to recover - followed the five wolves that were decoys. Because of their size, the decoys could easily get them lost, and so they wouldn't give up their chase, suddenly appear again.
The rest worked out as planed. The two other groups destroyed their camp, and took no prisoners. The fourth saved their own, as well the only daughter that had been stolen all those years ago, and her daughter, Senka. In the battle, Gage finally earned his name; CrimsonFang. For all of the wolves he massacred in the name of revenge, freedom and justice for his Clan.
In the end, the forces that the Clan had lost was great. It was Gage who assumed the Alpha leadership, with his mate, Senka. In their honer, the clan was dubbed Senka. Their first litter of pups all had brown fur and red eyes, just like their father.
Little did they know that this was the beginning, not the ending...
